The Terai Region is located in the southern part of Nepal. Its height ranges from 60 to 610 metres above the sea level. It represents 23 percent of the total land. Its breadth ranges from 25 to 30 kilometers. The physiography of this region is flat. The climate is hot and humid. It is composed of fertile alluvial soil.
The lowland area locted in the southern part is the Terai. This region becomes lower from the north to south. The region includes twenty districts of Nepal. Jhapa, Dhanusha, Nawalparasi, Dang and Kailai are some of the districts of the Terai. Terai Region may be divided into three sub-regions- the Inner Terai, the Bhabar and the Terai Plain. The structure of their eco-system is different.
